Florida Changes Policy After Forgeries Free Inmates

he Florida Department of Law Enforcement is reviewing its policies and procedures following the release of two convicted killers earlier this month. Forged documents allowed the inmates to walk out of a Florida prison, claiming their life sentences had been reduced to just 15 years. Following their release, Joseph Jenkins and Charles Walker registered as felons with the Orange County Jail 300 miles away.

Although correctional facilities are designed to keep criminals captive for various amounts of time, they are far from stagnant. Inmates move from housing units to medical facilities and workstations, and every day new prisoners arrive, while others are released.
