Culture Study to be Included in Nebraska Correctional Reform

After having multiple problems occur within its correctional facilities, the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services has decided to conduct a culture study before making reform plans.

Nebraska Officials Release Latest Budget Request

Nebraska’s issues with prison overcrowding continue as the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services released its latest budget request earlier this month. The prison system is seeking 195 new employees, a 15 percent increase in spending (to $239.9 million) and expansion of a program that houses state prison inmates in county jails. This is the latest update to a still incomplete prison-system master plan that would help ease overcrowding.

Nebraska Struggles with Prison Overcrowding

A Nebraska senator recently sounded the alarm about a potential lawsuit in his state’s correctional system. Senator Brad Ashford (I-Omaha), chairman of the state legislature’s judiciary committee, warned that his state must address its prison overcrowding problem or face the risk of judicial action.
