Michigan DOC Transfers Inmates to Former Hiawatha Facility

About 1,200 inmates were transferred on Oct. 19 from the old Kinross Correctional Facility to the former Hiawatha Correctional Facility in Kincheloe. The Hiawatha facility underwent $8.9 million in renovations ever since the Michigan Department of Corrections (DOC) decided to make the transfer in early 2015 and has since been renamed the Kinross Correctional Facility.

The GEO Group to Re-Open Michigan Facility

Plans are moving forward with the re-opening of the North Lake Correctional Facility in Baldwin. The 1,740-bed facility, owned by Boca Raton, Fla.-based The Geo Group, a private prison operator, recently signed a contract with the Vermont Department of Corrections to house up to 675 inmates at the Baldwin facility as early as July.
