National Survey Measures Prison Health Care Delivery

Findings of a recent study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Washington, discovered that prison health care services in many states have prioritized mental health screenings and long-term medical care for inmates. The study, developed and conducted by the CDC in partnership with the Bureau of Justice Statistics, also based in Washington, focused on services provided by state prisons in 2011.

New Report Criticizes Lack of HIV Services for Louisiana Inmates

In the report, “Paying the Price: Failure to Deliver HIV Services in Louisiana Parish Jails,” national advocacy group Human Rights Watch claims Louisiana jail inmates consistently receive HIV services that are “limited, haphazard, and in many cases, non-existent.”

HIV Programs Cut From Mass. County Jails

A new concern has hit those in Massachusetts’ county jails. The state has recently eliminated more than $1 million for HIV testing and education in county jails.
