Formerly Valley State Prison for Women, the new Valley State Prison recently completed its conversion from a women’s facility to a men’s prison in an effort to utilize facilities and relieve overcrowding in California state prisons.

A new jail in Effingham County recently broke ground in response to severe inmate overcrowding in the area. Ground was broken on the project in late February and is expected to take around two years to complete.
