Forsyth Courthouse, Jail Scheduled for Spring Debut

Construction on the new Forsyth County Justice Center in Cummings is currently on track to debut this spring. The design includes a five-story courthouse and adjacent jail, both of which are being built to enhance security as well as be flexible for expansion.
 

Construction Begins on Welsh Super Prison

Construction work began earlier this month on the about $332 million prison in Wrexham after Wrexham Council’s planning committee approved plans for the prison on Nov. 3. The super prison will be the largest in England and Wales and will house 2,100 Category C male offenders.
 

Top Florida Correctional Official Resigns

After two years and a flurry of controversies, Florida Department of Corrections Secretary Michael Crews will resign at the end of the month. Following the resignation announcement, Florida Governor Rick Scott appointed Tim Cannon, a more than 20-year veteran of the department and its current deputy secretary, to serve as interim secretary.

Utah Corrections Report Predicts $542 Million Savings

The Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice (CCJJ) released the Justice Reinvestment Report on Nov. 12. The report features a comprehensive set of data-driven recommendations for the upcoming legislative session in order to help reduce recidivism, hold offenders accountable and save taxpayers an estimated $542 million by averting most of Utah’s projected prison growth over the next 20 years.

Precast Complete on New Reno County Facility

On August 25, Oldcastle Modular set the last precast concrete cell module for the new $29 million Reno County Correctional Facility expansion, completing the precast portion of the facility and marking a significant milestone for the project.
