Kings County Courthouse Scheduled for Late 2015 Completion

Construction on the new 144,000-square-foot Kings County Courthouse in Hanford is well underway, with a current expected completion date of late 2015. The design of the $86 million facility will address security and overcrowding issues that the county has faced for years. It is also designed to achieve LEED Silver, making it an energy-efficient investment for the state and county.

Funding Disputes Keep Washington State Jail Empty

The $45 million Accountability and Restitution Center (ARC) in Tumwater has now sat empty for more than four years. Although upkeep on the facility costs the county roughly $430,000 annually, Thurston County commissioners and Sheriff John Snaza continue to disagree on how to properly fund the facility’s opening, forcing the county to rely on its increasingly inadequate 1970s-era jail facility.

Putnam County Jail Construction to Begin in 2015

Construction on the Putnam County Jail in Palatka is finally scheduled to begin in early January 2015, about five years after RQAW was hired to conduct a physical assessment of the jail to see what kind of upgrades needed to be made.
