John R. Layton

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office, led by Sheriff John R. Layton, recently received the National Sheriff’s Association Triple Crown Award. Sheriff Layton accepted the award — which recognizes agencies that achieve accreditation from Commission on the Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies, the American Correctional Association and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care — at a ceremony in Baltimore during the Nation Sheriff’s Association Summer Conference. The Indiana Sheriff’s Association in 2014 also named Layton sheriff of the year. He has served Marion County for more than 40 years, beginning his career as a deputy after graduating from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.
