On Nov. 1, Michael A. Tidwell began his tenure as the new Chief Corrections Deputy with the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office. Tidwell has more than 30 years experience in corrections management, and began his career in 1971 with the U.S. Marshall Service. He then rose through the ranks at facilities in Maryland, Virginia, Missouri and Tennessee, serving as a warden, superintendent and deputy director. Most recently, he was employed as the chief of corrections for the Orange County (FL) Corrections Department. Tidwell received his MA in Human Services from Pennsylvania’s Lincoln University, is an American Jail Association-certified jail manager and has also earned designations from the American Correctional Association. Tidwell’s new role with the OPSO will focus on helping the office adhere to best practices.
