Deadline Approaching to Submit Projects for AIA’s Justice Facilities Review

WASHINGTON — The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Academy of Architecture for Justice is currently in its final month of accepting project submissions for its 2013 Justice Facilities Review.

The JFR recognizes projects based on best practices in planning and design for justice architecture; functionality and community impact; sustainability and economic feasibility, as well as aesthetic achievements.

Winning projects will be featured throughout the year in the AAJ Journal and compiled into a print and digital publication each fall. The projects will also be displayed at the AIA National Convention and Exposition and at conferences of allied organizations including American Correctional Association, American Jail Association, and the National Association of Court Management.

The deadline for submission is Feb. 4, 2013. In order to submit projects, entries must pay a $700 fee for the first project and $650 for additional projects, and $400 for small firm projects (five or fewer employees).

The 2013 awards jury include Jay Farbstein, FAIA, chair; Earl Cook; Duana B. Delaney; Tom Donaghy, AIA; Tom Faust; Maynard Feist, AIA; and Jim McClaren, AIA. The recipients will all be honored at the American Institute of Architects National Convention this summer in Denver.

Last year’s award winners came from across the country and were given citation awards well as several merit awards, which are the highest awards given to facilities in the JFR.
