(08/01/2012)

HANOVER, Md. — Conmed Healthcare Management, Inc., a provider of correctional facility healthcare services to county detention centers, announced in May it signed an agreement with Howard County, Md., for a one-year term with options for nine one-year extensions.

Effective July 1, 2012, this new contract is expected to generate more than $16 million for Conmed from the initial annual rate of $1.6 million plus annual price increases based on the Consumer Price Index.

The contract provides several medical services including medical, dental, mental health and administrative staffing; pharmacy, laboratory and mobile X-ray services; management of hospitalization and other out-of-facility services for the inmates; and installation of electronic medical records. The jail houses approximately 320 inmates.

“We are very pleased to announce this new agreement with Howard County, a Conmed client since 2005,” said Richard Turner, chairman and chief executive officer of Conmed.

“This contract is another testament of our remarkable client retention record and repeat business, which reflects Conmed’s continued commitment to bring quality care to correctional facilities.”

Howard County first entered a contract with Conmed back in 2005. The new contract highlights some important new services including the installation and management of an electronic medical record system.
