Bidding on AZ Precinct Project Delayed

PHOENIX — Bidding on the new $7.4 million Cactus Park Police Precinct Replacement project has been pushed back to late fall 2011.

The city of Phoenix Engineering and Architectural Services Department recently awarded the design services contract on the project to Phoenix-based Arrington Watkins Architects.

The first construction package is anticipated be the remodeling of the site’s existing buildings. It is likely the project will be handled by a CMAR, but the city has not yet made a final decision on the construction delivery method.

Two buildings on the site will be converted for use as police facilities and a new vehicle maintenance building will be added. The project involves four basic areas that will comprise the 40,000-square-foot facility:

Building A, comprising 22,000 square feet, will be converted to house the operations and staff currently located at 302 E. Union Hills.

Building B, comprising 17,000 square feet, will be converted to function as a police precinct station. Adult and juvenile holding rooms, restrooms, shower rooms, locker rooms, a property impound room, phone/data rooms and a shooting range will also be added to the building.

The New Vehicle Maintenance Building and fuel island will replicate the vehicle maintenance building at the Black Mountain Precinct in Phoenix.

The facility’s parking lot and attendant site will comprise 9.5 acres once the project is completed.
