Hininger Promoted to CEO of Corrections Corp.

Corrections Corporation of America president and chief operating officer Damon Hininger, the Background Check subject in the July/August issue, will succeed chairman John Ferguson as chief executive officer in October.

Hininger will also join the company’s board of directors, where Ferguson will continue to serve as chairman following his retirement as CEO.

“John successfully led a turnaround of CCA, instituting dramatic change in the company’s business structure and returning CCA to profitability,” says William Andrews, chairman of the executive committee of CCA’s board of directors.

Hininger joined CCA as a corrections officer in 1992, rising through the company during the course of his 17-year career. In July 2008, he was promoted to president and COO, after previously serving as senior vice president for federal customer relations.

“Damon intimately knows every aspect of CCA’s business and is well equipped to build on CCA’s strategy and successfully lead CCA into the future,” Ferguson says. “Damon epitomizes our active approach to professional staff development and I am proud of his accomplishments.”
