Lawsuits Follow Numerous Inmate Staph Infections

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. — Officials in Bucks County are worried that several flesh-eating staph infections at the county jail could result in a barrage of lawsuits.

The county was ordered to pay two inmates a total of $1.2 million last year after they filed lawsuits after they contract staph infections at the jail. There have been at least 58 similar cases since the lawsuit.

In January, another inmate filled a federal lawsuit against county commissioners asking for $150,000 in damages because unsanitary conditions led him to contract methicillin-suceptible staphylococcus aureus, also know as MSSA. Inmates have filed at least 14 other lawsuits with similar allegations.
